It’s been less than a workweek since I reported about Nokia windup their London Flagship Store and Gospel According to Matthew Arthur Miller from Nokia Experts has just become the carrier of even more badness newsworthiness with a report saying that the New York and boodle Flagship stores will be shut down feather as well. I’ve been to all 3 stores, and they were all special in their own unique way, so I’m really sad to hear this. Can’t say I’m surprised however, the devices in Nokia (New York Stock Exchange: NOK)’s Flagship Stores were often priced much higher than what you could find them for online. The NY and boodle locations were perfect, but as an American walking down the street, the brand epithet “Nokia” doesn’t really tickle your fancy now does it? At least the Helsinki Flagship Store less than 10 blocks away from me is distillery open, and it’s often packed.

[Hat confidential information to @Gartenberg]

Update: Gospel According to Mark Guim from The Nokia Blog has posted Nokia’s functionary financial statement on the matter:

The Flagship stores, opened in 2006 in the U.S., were conceived to inspire and educate consumers to the benefits of mobility through an innovative retail experience, and broaden the appealingness of the Nokia brand.

The determination to close the deuce Nokia Flagship Stores in the U.S., located in New House of York City and Chicago, was made to create open conjunction with our local marketplace strategy and in summation, as part of a global realignment of Nokia’s retail strategy.

Nokia remains committed to providing the best consumer and retail experience around the world – the Flagship Stores ar only part of Nokia’s retail experience and marketplace scheme. Nokia’s retail scheme includes retail and operator partners and their more than 600,000 retail outlets globally. All of these client outlets will remain requisite to Nokia’s ongoing succeeder and continue to be a primary sales channels in the future tense.

Back in the first base one-half of 2008 I reviewed the LG Viewty, a touchscreen gimmick with a 3 inch exhibit and a 5 megapixel photographic camera. Now, over a class later we’ve been sent LG’s latest variant of the gimmick, entitled the GC900 ‘Viewty Smart’. The new handset again features a 3 in touchscreen exhibit, albeit with a higher resolution this time, and a new camera – nudged up to the 8 megapixel bell ringer. Read on to find out if the new Viewty really is as smart as its epithet suggests.

Physical Aspects

The LG GC900 Viewty Smart is a fairly norm-sized French telephone in a pill form-gene. The actual dimensions ar 109mm x 56mm x 12.4mm (4.3in x 2.2in x .5in) and the phone weighs 102g (3.6oz), which is quite typical for a touchscreen earphone these days. The outside is mainly finished in a metallic silver paint with a brushed alloy impression on the rear. The movement of the device features a bright WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) solving exhibit, which measures 3 inches diagonally and tin show up to 16 1000000 colours. The exhibit is a capacitive touchscreen(INFO) whole with goodness reactivity, but poor discernability in bright environments due to glare from the glossy finish.

Above the exhibit is the gimmick’s earpiece, as well as a videocall photographic camera, ambient light source sensor, and proximity detector. All are well hidden in the black area surrounding the blind, which gives the gimmick a very clean look. Below the exhibit you’ll find a large chrome button that is used for returning to the dwelling house blind. A similar look chrome striptease tin also be found above the exhibit, but is not a push button.

The back of the gimmick houses the Schneider-Kreuznach photographic camera lens for the Viewty Smart’s 8 megapixel autofocus camera, and its accompanying flash bulb. You’ll also discovery the Dolby Mobile and DivX logos, as wellspring as the usual LG branding. The left position of the gimmick houses the covered microSD one-armed bandit, the S-class square block fare/multitasking menu button, and a lanyard mending on the circus tent corner. The volume cradle, camera shutter button, and covered proprietorship power/data/earphone port are located on the right field position. The power button sits on circus tent of the Viewty Smart and tin also be used for sleeping and waking the blind. The freighter of the French telephone is home only to the microphone pinhole. Overall, the build quality was pretty solidness, with no creaks or squeaks in normal manipulation.
