Now that HTC has said passing on the electric potential acquisition of Palm (NSDQ: PALM), Lenovo (OTCPK: LNVGY) is up to the plate. Lenovo whitethorn be trying to get into the mobile quad, but I couldn’t imagine that they motivation to bargain Palm as badly as HTC does.

Lenovo is known topper for it’s computers. The troupe acquired the ThinkPad brand from IBM not too long ago, and have since come out with some great computers under the epithet. Lenovo is just acquiring into mobile computer hardware now, and if the company eventually buys Palm, they could be a violence to be reckoned with in the mobile space. It’s not Palm’s epithet, OS, or experience that citizenry are looking for, and it’s surely not it’s stock that’s appealing. It’s Palm’s intellect property that makes them worth buying, something that some would rich person helped HTC greatly with the lawsuit against Apple (NSDQ: AAPL). Palm also has established relationships with US carriers and a proven logistical chain, both of which would give any handset maker a head-beginning in gaining a foothold in the American radio market.

Lenovo whitethorn be next in line, but Palm whitethorn distillery attempt to put up a fight. Palm’s CEO, Jon Rubinstein, says that he believes that the company tin still survive as an independent company. Just in lawsuit it can’t, though, Rubinstein says that, “If someone comes to the board with a reasonable offer of course it’s something we have to consider.” He also said that Palm whitethorn consider licensing WebOS to other French telephone makers – something they should have done in the first spot.

Whatever may become of Palm is uncertain, but I father’t even maintenance anymore. The only real number reason I was even slightly interested in them was the fact that HTC was thinking of buying them, which would rich person been incredible. Not to say Lenovo is a badness company, but their footprint would not be shown in the States anytime soon. As interesting as the LePhone is, I wouldn’t be interested in a Googleless Android earphone with no Market, and Baidu as the supplier of marrow mobile applications.

Thoughts? Who do you wish to buy Palm, or do you think they tin survive and turn it all around?

Sygic AURA (a nex-gen Sat Nav app) has got released in to the wilderness – mapping Singapore on Malayisa on its first regional outing.

In cause you are wondering what’s nex-gen about it – wellspring, it’s apparently a “revolutionary combining of full-featured twist-by-turn cable car and walker navigation with social networking, packed with latest maps and dozens of useful tourer information, all this in 3D with attractive turning point models of the most popular places”

I’m not too sure it’s revolutionary, but some of the features ar certainly welcome, if they ar executed well in the application. Case in distributor point: 3D Maps – I’m certainly at the point now where a cleverly-realised 3D Map would add something to the surround for me, but the problem to-appointment has been mixing the requirement for that much extra detail, with the massive warehousing impingement.

Another feature is the duplicate metadata that supposedly comes with the app, allowing you to check out (for representative) local points of pastime with lots of detail to it.

One lineament I’m not convinced by is the sociable side of the App – but then again, I think some apps rich person a center requirement for social connectivity, and others don’t – and I’d have to be convinced that organism able to find my budding, when I’m exploitation Saturday Nav, is actually important – I’d of intellection acquiring where I was leaving would be anteriority figure one!

At any pace, we’ll all be able to give things a go when the regional app for where each of us lives goes live – I’m wait for the UK edition of Sygic AURA

Verizon Wireless is on running with the rollout of its Long-Term Evolution 4G meshing and the largest U.S. carrier is set to have LTE handsets in mid-2011, according to a reputation from The Wall Street Journal.

Getting a 4G handset out next summer would reportedly be about sixer months ahead of agenda and there’s no tidings on what manufacturer volition rich person the first base gimmick. This is poise stuff because a 4G handset could potentially get 5 to 12 Mbps on the go, which could surface the threshold to services like HD streaming videos, high gear-caliber video chatting, or VoIP calling. Big Red River is currently deploying LTE across the country and it plans to rich person up to 30 markets covered by the end of the class.

Of course of action, this whitethorn start the iPhone-to-Verizon (NYSE: VZ) rumors again because LTE is look like it volition be the criterion for 4G around the earth. If Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) wants to come to Verizon it volition, but this doesn’t make things any easier technologically because Verizon’s 4G handsets will have to be able to capitulation backrest on Big Red’s 3G. Verizon has aggressive LTE deployment schedules but it’s really ruffian to cover the stallion United States – we distillery don’t rich person 100% 3G reporting.

Rival Sprint (NYSE: S) is patronage WiMax for its 4G efforts and it is already delivering 3 to 6 Mbps on the go. It is oblation USB modems and 4G/3G mobile hotspots like the Overdrive and a WiMax handset is expected to launch this summer. We’ve already seen some WiMax handsets from HTC and Sprint is reportedly talking with Samsung about a 4G handset. It’s going to take a while but we’ll soon have some insane broadband at our fingertips. I’m excited.

A few weeks ago, we previewed a new Android habitation replacing, TAT Home. With a stunning 3D user interface, and widgets galore, Thematic Apperception Test Home is the closest thing to HTC’s unrivaled usage user interface, Sense. As it turns out, the home replacing will not be released into the Android Market, and will instead only be available to phone vendors only.

As said in a previous article concerning the home replacing, it was uncertain if Thematic Apperception Test Home would actually make it to the Android Market. Unfortunately, it turns out that at the moment The Astonishing Tribe has no intentions on releasing it for download.

Later TATMobileUI tweeted, “If you want us to liberation TATHome for the Market- help me convince the product coach by telling what you would salary for it ” Well that’s irritating, but at least they ar trying. Sort of. If the home replacement does shuffle its means into the Android Market, I’d expect it to be significantly higher than other home replacements.

Hopefully at some distributor point we volition see TAT Home appear in the Market. I would pick it over MotoBlur any day, and obviously, it goes without saying, Samsung’s Touchwhiz found on the Behold 2. If I had something like this available to me, I wouldn’t flash my phone with custom ROMs, like the updated Sense UI. Well, not as much at least.

More newsworthiness advent our way from the Olympics. It seems this year is the class for customized, limited edition phones. We regard more multiplication were like this, to be honest. We can never get enough limited edition things. Because, well, they’re limited. Anyway, this time we’ve got Nokia manufacturing only 200 of these rare gems. (It’s means more than that other limited version gimmick we heard about.) In summation to those 200, Nokia gave three of them to the Annie Oakley-sponsored athletes at this class’s Winter Olympics.

This isn’t the first meter the N97 mini has been treated to the limited edition way of life, though. In fact, if we were going off limited version versions, the N97 mini would be a pretty big hit. Of course of action, it still has that whole thing “N97″ nickname, which we’re sure is bringing some people down all over the worldly concern. It doesn’t damage that it’s a better phone than its big brother, but distillery, sometimes those shadows extend pretty far.

Unfortunately, from what we can tell, there’s not much changed on this variant of the mini. Yes, there is a optical maser-etched symbolization on the backrest of the phone, and it does have a great gas alloy finish to it, but we’re thinking that’s not enough. After all, the RAOUL variant was pretty intense. There’s a few goodies in the box, though. Like some Team Oakley stuff. Other than that, not much. But, if you’re a buff of Oakley (or Nokia), and want a earphone that stands out above the rest, then this is a great means to make that happen. Start scouring those online auction sale sites, ladies and gentlemen, these ar saltation to go quick.

When it comes to mobile internet search, alliances ar short-lived and loyalties are looser than, well, you get the distributor point. AT&T (New York Stock Exchange: T) recently kicked Google (NSDQ: GOOG) off the Android-powered Motorola BackFlip, in ordering to get in layer with Yahoo as the default hunt locomotive on the smartphone. Now, T-Mobile River (New York Stock Exchange: DT) United States Army has up and shuffled Google out the door to make quad for Yahoo. The 2-class correspondence between Yahoo and T-Mobile is apparently no more, and the twenty-five percent-largest US wireless aircraft carrier is look elsewhere for mobile search. That elsewhere is Google.

To keep with the search-is-promiscuous-business theme, net ball’s revisit T-Mobile’s not too long ago wedding to Yahoo. The partnership between Yahoo and T-Mobile River was supposed to be beautiful. It birthed a new T-Mobile vane portal vein, it spread to many handsets, but alas, the union did not last. Today, things are different. The Magenta aircraft carrier has apparently decided that there’s nonentity keeping it tied to Yahoo and has already turned to Google’s waiting coat of arms.

The deal should boost Google’s bruised self, coming off the “burn” delivered by AT&ere;T, by means of the BackFlip. It’s not clear what the terms of the deal were, but mobile hunt deals aren’t anything to scoff at. It recently cost Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) a sang-froid one-half billion (with a “B”) dollars to get Bing on deck as the default search engine on Sprint (NYSE: S) phones.

It’s not open how long T-Mobile’s commitment to Google is at this point, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see them look for a new search partner in the not too distant future tense. That’s how things go in the crazy mobile hunt biz. Hey, father’t hatred the playa, hate the game.
