Developer with cognomen “6Fg8″ from XDA-Developers.com made an interesting substantiation-of-conception diligence that basically turns the HTC HD2 into a alloy detector. How you ask? Apparently, it uses the HD2’s built-in compass to “detect alloy nearby by the digression of the ground’s magnetic field included by the metal.” Sounds like a mumbo-jumbo but apparently it deeds… I guess.

Here’s what they say how to manipulation the app:

Place your twist flat on a surface. After start the app, the gage should show zero. If it doesn’t, payoff your twist and write a duo of “eights” in the aviation (this is to get rid of magnetics which mightiness get stuck in the sensors). Then use a brace of scissor or something the like and move it slowly to the right position of your device. At a distance of approx. 5 cm. the gage should commencement to relocation. Take your twist and relocation it with its right field side near metals, and see if the gage shows values.

Please note that this is the pre-alpha 0.0.0.1 release, so it will definitely need some improvements. Still, you whitethorn want to springiness it a effort – you can download metal sensing element for your HD2 from here.
